Sun, Wind & Gears Route

Starting at 10am on Oct 4th, the route will take riders around Hillsboro and Washington County visiting points of interest in the Silicon Forest.   The start and finish is at SolarWorld USA Headquarters in Hillsboro, OR.  Rest stops will be at Portland Community College at Rock Creek and Jackson Bottom Wetland Preserve.

This ride gives you the opportunity to explore the landscape just over the hill from downtown Portland while learning about the incredible technology and sustainability agents in our backyards.  As you ride you will be introduced to a closed loop cafeteria system where produce is grown on site and waste is recycled into a worm compost!  You will also get to meet renewable energy business leaders in the wind and solar industries witnessing the nuts & bolts of a wind turbine and solar photovoltaic technology. Finally,  you will witness the beauty of the Hillsboro countryside highlighted especially at a wetlands preserve within the city limits full of wildlife and fresh air.

The route is approximately 35 miles with nearly no elevation gain.  This ride is perfect for the whole family, young and old, to enjoy the countryside and sustainable industries locally while supporting them abroad.
